Stephen G. DeNigris, Esq., is Counsel to the firm. Steve’s practice is mainly focused in providing representation to police officers and law enforcement unions. He also has experience in Civil Rights, Labor Law, Contract Negotiations, and Grievance Arbitration.
Steve served the public as a police officer with the Albany, NY Police Department starting in early 1973 and ending and with the Fort Lauderdale Police Department in late 1988. His law enforcement experience spans almost 16-years. As a uniformed police officer, he was assigned to such roles as Patrol, Field Training Officer, Traffic Homicide Investigator, Radar Enforcement Instructor, and Alcohol Enforcement Unit Officer. As a union advocate, he was a contract negotiator, the union's chief steward and an executive board officer for the Ft. Lauderdale Police Union from 1982 - 1988. Steve transitioned into the legal field in 1989.
After graduating from Florida Atlantic University in 1985, Steve studied and received his law degree from the Nova University Law Center in 1989. Following law school, he became a staff attorney to the Honorable Mark E. Polen at the Florida Fourth District Court of Appeals in West Palm Beach. Steve chose to continue his education and attended Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, DC where he obtained a Master of Law (LL.M) degree in Labor Law in 1991. Upon obtaining his advanced law degree, he worked for over four years as an field attorney for the Federal Labor Relations Authority in the Office of the General Counsel in Washington, DC He enforced federal labor law and investigated and prosecuted unfair labor practice charges. He was commended by the FLRA's General Counsel for the successful prosecution of the Federal Aviation Administration over its unilateral implementation of a improper national training program for air traffic controllers. The prosecution resulted in affected air traffic controllers receiving monetary compensation from the FAA.
Prior to joining Tully Rinckey, Steve started his own private practice in 1995 in Washington, D.C. Since then, he has provided outstanding legal representation to a number of police and labor organizations, including serving as General Counsel to the Fraternal Order of Police, Pentagon Police and the Fraternal Order of Police Naval District Washington Police.
Steve is an active member of the legal community, serving on the Labor Law sections of the Florida Bar, New York State Bar Association, Washington DC Bar, and American Bar Association. He also serves on the Litigation and Government Lawyer’s sections of the Washington, DC Bar.
