Firm’s “Jeans and Sneakers” Initiative Boosts Employee Morale and Aids the Community

November 14, 2013 – Albany, N.Y. – While “casual Fridays” are boosting employee morale at many businesses throughout upstate New York, the practice is doing that at the full-service law firm Tully Rinckey PLLC and improving the community. Since adopting a dress down option under which employees are allowed to wear jeans and sneakers to the office on Fridays in exchange for a $1 donation for each apparel item, the firm has donated over $14,000 in cash or goods primarily to local upstate organizations.

Since February 2010, the firm has made monthly donations to over 30 employee-nominated organizations. Recipients include City Mission of Schenectady, the Albany Housing Coalition, Trillium Health in Rochester, Western New York Heroes in Williamsville, Helping Hounds Dog Rescue in Syracuse, and the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Northeast New York. The donations consisted of Tully Rinckey PLLC employees’ “Jeans and Sneakers” donations and the firm’s dollar-for-dollar matching contributions.

“We are as committed to our communities throughout upstate New York as we are to our clients. Every which way you look at it, casual Friday at Tully Rinckey is a win-win situation: employees get to end their work week in comfortable clothes and the community benefits from our employees’ donations and the firm’s matching funds,” said Greg T. Rinckey, the firm’s managing partner.

The “Jeans and Sneakers” donation total does not include Tully Rinckey PLLC’s $50,045 donation earlier this year to the Schenectady County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA). This nonprofit organization used the funding to purchase a 2013 Chevy Tahoe for its volunteer law enforcement officers. The SPCA donation – the firm’s largest donation ever – represented the amount of attorneys’ fees the New York State Court of Appeals awarded Tully Rinckey PLLC in the landmark case SPCA v. Mills. Additionally, since 2009 Tully Rinckey PLLC has given out free Thanksgiving turkeys and hams to Capital Region veterans; and since 2010, the firm has given free winter coats to homeless veterans in the region during the Christmas season.
