Tully Rinckey PLLC has donated $50,045 to the Schenectady County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, representing the amount the state Court of Appeals awarded the firm in an April 2012 case.
In addition to announcing the donation of attorney fees the firm received in the case, Tully Rinckey also joined the SPCA in unveiling the 2013 Chevrolet Tahoe that the nonprofit organization recently bought with the help of the funds.
SPCA Chief David Dean explained how the firm’s donation, along with grants from the Wright Family Foundation and Carlilian Foundation, allowed the group to buy and retrofit the vehicle. It will replace a police cruiser with more than 110,000 miles on it that was repeatedly put out of service last year for repairs.
The monetary award was in connection with a suit by the SPCA over the state Department of Education’s refusal to release, under the Freedom of Information Law, names and street addresses of all licensed veterinarians and veterinary technicians in Schenectady County.
The Court of Appeals ruled that the state agency was responsible for redacting any private information before supplying the record, according to Tully Rinckey.
