An award-winning journalist who spent the past two years running a New York State legislative committee has joined the marketing team at Tully Rinckey PLLC. The Albany law firm has welcomed James Schlett as its new Business Development Writer. In this position, Mr. Schlett will support the firm’s marketing efforts by writing Requests for Proposals (RFPs), practice area descriptions, ad copy, presentations, marketing pitches and client presentations.
Mr. Schlett recently served as the administrator for the New York State Senate Select Committee on Budget and Tax Reform in Albany. For this legislative committee, he organized public hearings statewide on budget and tax issues and wrote in-depth reports based on the testimony gathered at these meetings. In addition to preparing legislative proposals based on these reports, he also provided fiscal and legislative analysis to the Select Committee’s chair.
Prior to joining the Select Committee in February 2009, Mr. Schlett for four years served as a business reporter for The Daily Gazette in Schenectady. At the newspaper, he regularly wrote about Capital Region businesses, cases in U.S. Bankruptcy Court and U.S. District Court, real estate, banking and other issues. While working for the Daily Gazette in 2009, he won the “Distinguished Feature Writing” award from the New York Newspaper Publishers Association. In 2007, he also took first place in the “Business/Finance Story” category at the New York State Associated Press Association’s annual writing contest. His other journalistic experiences include reporting for the Watertown Daily Times in northern New York and The Westerly Sun in southern Rhode Island.
“Mr. Schlett’s experience writing about business affairs and the law make him a valuable addition to the firm,” says Tully Rinckey Founding Partner Mathew B. Tully. “It is important that we have a writer on our marketing team who can clearly and concisely communicate to an ever-growing audience how Tully Rinckey PLLC can assist people with complex legal issues.”
