Tully Rinckey PLLC Gathers Brightest Minds to Create Legal Think Tank – Holds Grand Opening at 815 Connecticut Ave. NW

May 21, 2014 – Washington, D.C. – Six years after opening a law office at 1800 K St., where it became one of the nation’s largest federal labor employment and military law firms, Tully Rinckey PLLC today unveiled its new office at the recently redeveloped 815 Connecticut Ave. NW. At this new location, the firm will not only continue serving federal employees, unions and associations as well as military personnel and defense contractors; it will also fortify and expand its already thriving private sector counterpart to its nationally recognized federal sector labor and employment law practice group.

At a grand opening ceremony, Tully Rinckey PLLC leadership showed off the firm’s 6,400-square-foot, seventh-floor suite, which features over 20 offices and breathtaking views of the National Mall and Memorial Parks. Additionally, leaders of some of the nation’s largest and most distinguished federal employment and Veterans’ advocacy groups discussed the importance of continuing the fight to safeguard and expand the rights of federal employees, military reservists and Veterans.

The move to 815 Connecticut Ave. NW places the firm’s labor and employment law, military law and security clearance representation attorneys on a single floor. Since April 2008, as demand for its attorneys’ services grew, Tully Rinckey PLLC had been expanding piecemeal within 1800 K St. By 2013, the firm occupied four suites on three floors in that location. With another office in Arlington, Va., Tully Rinckey PLLC employs nearly 30 attorneys in the D.C. Metro Area.

“Tully Rinckey PLLC has situated its D.C.-based legal team in one central location to create a collaborative think tank for all things federal employment law, military law and security clearance representation from which precedent-setting legal strategy and decisions can be expected to originate,” said Tully Rinckey PLLC Founding Partner Mathew B. Tully, Esq. “A new dawn is coming for federal employees, military reservists and Veterans whose rights have been violated. It began today with the grand opening of Tully Rinckey PLLC’s new D.C. location at 815 Connecticut Ave. NW.”

Alecta Real Estate Investment owns 815 Connecticut Ave. NW, a 12-story building that features a rooftop terrace with stunning views of the White House front lawn. The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) recently awarded the building with LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Platinum certification.

Tully Rinckey PLLC’s D.C. operations have been a major business generator for the firm. They have played a significant role in helping the firm land on the Inc. 5000 list of America’s fastest-growing private companies for the past five consecutive years. Within the timeframe of the opening of the firm’s first D.C. office in 2008 up until 2013, annual revenues increased by 639 percent. During the same period, the firm’s headcount more than tripled to over 100 throughout its six offices in the District of Columbia, Virginia and upstate New York.

At its new D.C. office, Tully Rinckey PLLC plans to further expand its influence in private sector labor and employment law to complement its dominance in the same area in the federal sector. The firm expects to add to its labor and employment law team to continually enhance the firm’s capacity to represent D.C. Metro Area private sector employees in a wide range of matters, including claims concerning discrimination, sexual harassment, whistleblower retaliation, and unpaid minimum and overtime wages. Firm attorneys will also continue to provide D.C. Metro Area private sector employers with services such as employment contracts, employment litigation and appeals, employee handbooks, workplace investigations, and preventative counseling.

“As we move forward and expand our team, when people in the District of Columbia hear the name ‘Tully Rinckey,’ they will continue to not only think of federal sector labor and employment law; they will think about labor and employment law, period. Public and private: we will continue fighting for clients in both sectors,” said Tully Rinckey PLLC Managing Partner Greg T. Rinckey, Esq.

This year marks the 10-year anniversary of when Mr. Tully teamed up with his former fellow Hofstra University Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) cadet, Mr. Rinckey, to establish a law firm in Albany, N.Y. Mr. Rinckey in 2004 had just completed six years of service as an Army Judge Advocates General Corps (JAG) attorney. Mr. Tully a year earlier had established his law practice in his ski condo in New York’s Catskills, after escaping from the World Trade Center in New York City during the tragic events of Sept. 11, 2001.

Mr. Tully, a retired U.S. supervisory federal law enforcement officer, began his law career by representing former Bureau of Prisons colleagues in employment litigation. Since then, he has emerged as a pioneer in Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA) litigation, and he has strengthened military Veterans’ rights under this law by securing a series of landmark decisions from the Merit Systems Protection Board (MSPB) and U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.

This year also marks Mr. Tully’s return to the firm. In March 2012, he went on military leave so he could serve as a lieutenant colonel with the U.S. Army Intelligence and Security Command in Afghanistan, where he sustained debilitating injuries tied to a suicide bombing. This occurred on the fifth deployment of Mr. Tully’s military career. Since founding Tully Rinckey PLLC, he has been deployed overseas three times, with the other two taking him to Iraq in 2005 and Egypt in 2007. Mr. Tully has been awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart for his military service. The legacy of national service and personal sacrifice forged by the firm’s founding and managing partners is what drives them, along with the Tully Rinckey PLLC legal team, to aggressively fight to preserve the legal rights of federal employees, military reservists and Veterans. It is a passion shared by leaders of some of the nation’s largest and most distinguished federal employment and Veterans’ advocacy groups.

“From the increasingly larger group of Veterans who are coming home to the message ‘welcome back, you’re fired due to excessive military leave,’ to the disturbing conduct we are hearing about within the Department of Veterans Affairs regarding preventable deaths at its medical facilities, it is clear that the basic legal rights of those who serve in uniform are not being recognized by employers or the federal government,” said American Legion Executive Director Peter Gaytan. “This is an inexcusable trend that must be remedied. I am thankful that Tully Rinckey PLLC is committed to this effort.”

“The legal team at Tully Rinckey PLLC has been a reliable ally of Blacks in Government for years, not only by helping our members fight discrimination and adverse actions, but also by educating them on their rights as federal employees. Tully Rinckey PLLC’s bigger presence in D.C. will doubtlessly yield positive results for BIG,” said Blacks in Government National President Darlene H. Young.

“Federally Employed Women’s (FEW’s) mission is to advocate for diversity, inclusion and equity in the federal workplace, and to bring an end to any form of discrimination as well, throughout all agencies within the federal government,” said Federally Employed Women President Michelle Crockett. “The Tully Rinckey PLLC legal team offers a benefit to FEW’s membership in support of that mission by providing the knowledge, resources and representation to safeguard their federal careers.”
