Mathew B. Tully, Esq.
Place of birth: Mineola, NY
First job: Newspaper delivery boy for Newsday
What it taught me: Each role in a company is important. While I may have only delivered the paper, the company’s product would not have reached its customers if I hadn’t been there.
Family (If married, names of spouse and children): Wife, Kimberly and two year-old son, Kevin Timothy
Irish roots (parents, grandparents): I had a strong Irish-American upbringing based on traditions and ideals from my parents’ and grandparents’ Irish heritage. My paternal grandfather was from Galway and my paternal grandmother was Shannon.
Best advice anyone ever gave me: Treat clients as you expect and want to be treated. This piece of advice came from my father when I first entered law and I’ve formed my entire business structure around it. As a client seeking legal services, I would expect to receive personal, professional, and affordable service. My own firm’s clients receive nothing less.
Best advice I could give someone starting out: Remember those later that are helping you now. When I first started my firm, my only clients were family and friends who served with me in law enforcement or in the military. It’s this base that really propelled the firm’s fast growth. It’s because of this that I now serve as General Counsel for the Emerald Society of Federal Law Enforcement Agencies, which allows me to provide legal assistance to Irish law enforcement officers on a pro bono basis.
Tully is the founding partner of Tully Rinckey PLLC, one of the fastest-growing law firms in Albany, NY. He has dedicated his career to fighting for the rights afforded to members of the armed forces and veterans. A veteran himself, he has served as a Major in the United States Army National Guard, and has completed tours in Iraq, Egypt, and South Korea.
His professional, personal and affordable service quickly allowed him to grow his practice through positive word of mouth recognition. Just five years after starting his own law firm out of the back bedroom of his ski home, Mat’s spirit and entrepreneural vision have led Tully Rinckey PLLC to become one of the top 10 largest law firms in New York State’s Capital Region. His leadership in military law is reflected through his position as the legal columnist for the nationally syndicated Military Times.
In addition to his legal practice, Tully is actively involved in the community. He serves as General Counsel for the Emerald Society of Federal Law Enforcement Agencies, which is the only national organization representing law enforcement, military and support personnel of Irish and Gaelic descent. He is also the Chief of the Schenectady County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, an organization he began to protect animals from harm and ensure that animal cruelty laws are being enforced under their jurisdiction.
Tully currently resides in Niskayuna, NY with his wife, Kimberly, son, Kevin, and dog, Oslow.
