Upstate Gym Teacher and Soccer Coach Accused of Touching Teen

An Albany-area high school gym teacher and soccer coach is accused of inappropriately touching a 16-year-old girl in his class.

East Greenbush police say 47-year-old Bernard Watt was charged Monday with endangering the welfare of a child and forcible touching. The Columbia High School teacher was released on his own recognizance and is due back in court on March 5th.

Watt’s lawyer, Tom Carr, says that what actually happened was that Watt collided with the student while doing basketball drills during a gym class. The school district is investigating.

In 2005, Watt was fined $500 and placed on probation for making inappropriate comments to a female gymnastics student. Watt also works with a professional women’s soccer league and runs a goalie training facility at his Albany-area home.
