As the firm’s Chief Operating Officer, Cortelyou directs the firm’s overall business operations, growth and development, strategic planning and corporate communications efforts. He is responsible for overseeing a wide range of initiatives in a number of departments and areas, including human resources, finance, marketing, public relations, client relations, and the firm’s computer network and information technology departments.

Since joining the firm in early 2007, Cortelyou has developed and executed marketing initiatives that have resulted in exponential growth for the firm in both new and existing markets. He has planned and directed office expansion projects that have expanded the firm’s reach and presence in key markets throughout upstate New York, in Washington, DC, Texas, San Diego, California and New York City.

Cortelyou also develops and directs the firm’s new media, social media and technology efforts. Under his direction, the firm has become a national leader in effective, law firm marketing. He also oversees the firm’s in-house client relations department and is responsible for long-term development and implementation of technology and computer systems.

Additionally, Cortelyou directs public relations and communications efforts to ensure the firm has a continual presence in the national media. He oversees the development of all articles, newsletters, brochures and marketing collateral, which are designed to communicate with current and potential clients and the community as a whole.

Cortelyou is a graduate of the State University of New York at Oswego, where he earned dual bachelor’s degrees in Business Administration and Graphic Design. While pursuing his degree, he lived in London and worked in advertising for the luxury goods magazine Quintessentially. Cortelyou is a member of the Association of Legal Administrators, Legal Marketing Association, American Association of Inside Sales Professionals, and the Public Relations Society of America. Cortelyou previously served as Executive Producer of the Tully Rinckey talk radio show in Albany, NY.

He has been featured as a legal marketing expert in local and national media outlets and has provided his insight and knowledge on several marketing panels for major legal conferences. In 2008, Cortelyou was recognized by the Times Union as an “Up & Comer” in the Albany, NY business community.
