Holds 2nd annual ‘Go Purple’ Day, doubles donations to Equinox
For the second year in a row Tully Rinckey PLLC is standing up to domestic violence. Today all employees at the law firm are wearing some form of purple to show support for healthy and violence-free relationships. In addition, all month long Tully Rinckey employees have been donating money every Friday to support Equinox of Albany, the primary domestic violence service provider in Albany County. At the end of the month, the amount will be tallied and doubled by the firm.
“Those who are in an abusive relationship need to know that help is available when they decide to come forward and say enough is enough. Anyone who believes they were a victim of domestic violence should reach out for help whether it’s through a center, family member, friend or an attorney. As attorneys, we can advise them on what they’ll need to do to put this ugly chapter of their lives behind them,” said Barbara J King, Family Law Attorney and partner at Tully Rinckey PLLC.
An estimated 1.3 million women are victims of physical assault by an intimate partner each year, according to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV). While the perception is that only women are victims of domestic violence the Coalition also reports that 1 in every 33 men have experienced a violent/sexual assault.
“We encourage everyone to stand up to domestic violence is some way, shape, or form today. This is a universal problem affecting everyone is some way. Maybe you are not being mistreated but you might have a family member, friend or neighbor who is” said Mrs. King.
