Tully Rinckey PLLC finds its roots in the tragic events of Sept. 11, 2001. It was on that date when Mathew B. Tully, who was then working in Morgan Stanley’s legal department, escaped from the World Trade Center. Afterward, he relocated his family from New York City to New York’s Catskill Mountains, where in 2003 he established a law practice in his ski home’s back bedroom.
Before Mr. Tully became a lawyer, he was a field artillery officer in the Army and a federal law enforcement officer for the U.S. Department of Justice’s Bureau of Prisons. Many of Mr. Tully’s former co-workers in the federal government, friends, and family members were his early clients, but his practice quickly outgrew his home in Hunter, N.Y. In 2004, Mr. Tully relocated his law firm to Albany, N.Y. with the help of Greg T. Rinckey, a fellow Army veteran. Mr. Rinckey joined the firm after honorably completing six years of service in the Army’s Judge Advocate General’s (JAG) Corps., where he served as a criminal defense attorney with the Army’s Trial Defense Appellate Division and as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia. He received the Meritorious Service Medal for his military service.
Tully & Associates, PLLC officially became Tully Rinckey & Associates, PLLC in 2005. The firm’s name changed again to Tully Rinckey PLLC in 2008, this time to reflect the addition of new partners and the opening of an office in Washington, D.C. In Albany, Tully Rinckey PLLC has evolved into a full-service law firm capable of representing clients in all the legal matters they could encounter throughout their lives.
In Washington, D.C. attorneys focus on representing federal employees, contractors and unions, as well as service members. Owing to strong demand for its federal employment law services, the firm expanded its presence in the D.C. Metro Area in 2014 by moving its federal labor and employment law, security clearance representation, and military law team to 815 Connecticut Avenue NW, just one block from the White House.
From 2012 through 2015, Tully Rinckey PLLC also expanded throughout upstate New York by opening offices in Syracuse, Buffalo, Rochester, and Binghamton.
