Jennifer M. DeTeso, Esq. is a Senior Associate in Tully Rinckey PLLC’s Latham office where she focuses her practice on family and matrimonial law and criminal law. Jennifer is a litigation attorney with six years of experience at Am Law 200 firms representing clients in complex commercial matters before state and federal courts, and two years at smaller firms specializing in family law and criminal post-conviction work.

At a Boston Am Law 200 firm, Jennifer handled matters ranging from routine disputes to complex, high-stakes, and “bet the company” cases, including First Amendment, shareholder, antitrust, insurance, and real estate disputes, while providing practical advice tailored to each client’s business or individual objectives and the applicable law. Notable representations included defending one of North America’s leading textile manufacturers in a subrogation action arising from the largest property-damage fire loss in Massachusetts history, and representing major real estate developers in the defense of multiple First Amendment petition lawsuits.

During her time with two well-known, mid-sized firms, Jennifer worked on New York family and matrimonial law matters ranging from divorce to child custody. She also gained experience in post-conviction litigation, having challenged criminal convictions and sentences by reviewing and analyzing extensive trial records, meeting with incarcerated clients and their families, and drafting petitions for writs of habeas corpus, direct appeal briefs, case reviews, CPL § 440.10 motions, and other post-conviction documents. Notable representations included representing a client serving life without parole for first-degree murder, for whom she authored a direct appeal brief and CPL § 440.10 motion, and representing a client sentenced to 25 years to life for second-degree murder on a defense centered on lack of criminal culpability due to mental illness. She also handled a pro bono prisoner civil rights action under 28 U.S.C. § 1983, which included drafting and filing an opposition to a motion to dismiss in the United States District Court for the Northern District of New York.

Jennifer earned her B.A. degree from the University of Richmond (magna cum laude) and her J.D. from Boston College Law School (magna cum laude).
