The Basics of Guardianship in New York

Overview:

Many families have a loved one who suffers from an intellectual or developmental handicap or who eventually loses the ability to make their own financial and personal decisions. In these situations, guardianship may be required. In this complimentary CLE, Marlee Stever, Esq. will discuss the purpose and scope of guardianship proceedings.  

Topics covered in the CLE will include:

  • An overview of guardianship proceedings in NY; 
  • when it might be necessary;
  • types of guardianship;  
  • distinctions between property vs. personal needs;
  • where to file and the hearing process; and
  • fiduciary duties, reporting requirements, and scope of authority granted by the court.

To participate, please register using the form on this page. Upon registering, you will receive a link and instructions on how to access the CLE.  A timed agenda, supplemental course materials, an attorney affirmation and a course evaluation will be circulated on the day of the CLE.

After the CLE, please fill out and return the completed attorney affirmation and course evaluation to cle@tullylegal.com. Upon receipt, we will provide a certificate of CLE completion.
