Navigating Child Custody Relocation in New York

Overview:

Are you a parent sharing custody of your children and considering relocation? Navigating the legal complexities of child custody and relocation can be overwhelming. In this webinar, Daniel Gvertz, Esq. and Ellis Lockhart, Esq. will provide an overview of child custody relocation and your legal rights as a parent.

In New York, child custody relocation cases are decided on an individual basis by family court judges, who prioritize the child’s best interests. There is no predetermined distance that automatically allows or prohibits a parent from moving with their child. Join us as we explore the factors that courts consider and how you can best prepare for a potential relocation case.

Participants will explore:

  • Case law in New York regarding custody matters related to relocation out of state;
  • the process for relocation within New York State;
  • agreements that need to be met and how to file;
  • documents and proof needed; and
  • how to negotiate relocation proceedings in family court.
