Albany Law Firm Recruiting for New Office

By David Robinson

An Albany law firm plans to open an office in the Buffalo market – and it’s trying to build its local staff by sending letters to virtually every attorney in the region.

The law firm, Tully, Rinckey, is sending recruitment letters to 5,469 attorneys in the region, said Graig Cortelyou, the firm’s chief marketing officer. The letters, which are expected to arrive this week, were sent to attorneys in Erie, Niagara, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Genesee, Orleans and Wyoming counties, he said.

The law firm, which has offices in Syracuse, Arlington, Va., and Washington, D.C., said it believes the Buffalo Niagara region is an attractive legal market because it has fewer lawyers per capita than other areas, such as Albany and Westchester counties.

Tully Rinckey, which had $7.6 million in revenue last year, has 23 attorneys at its upstate offices. The firm used a similar approach when it opened its office in Syracuse earlier this year.

The law firm plans to open its Buffalo office next year, with a focus on family and matrimonial law, criminal defense and driving while intoxicated cases, as well as immigration, bankruptcy and estate planning.
